A lot of people wonder what happened to "United Media", the license holder who was to produce Rainbow Brite products in 2009/2010. The year started off strong with new dolls, and a few new products, but suddenly disappeared mid summer 2010.
So, what happened?:
Iconix Brand purchased the Peanut's license from United Media. June of 2010, the merger was finalized. All the products used by United Media were then changed to the name "Peanuts World Wide". The website changed titles, but most previous news letters and press releases were still on the Peanuts World Wide site. The team at United Media and at Hallmark did not change, the same people stayed on staff.
In the midst of the merger and the economic changes in the US, Playmate's toys changed much of it's toy products and Rainbow Brite was one of the unfortunate titles cut. The toy company still held the contract with United Media until the end of 2010, so with no toys being produced and still under contract other licensees were sought.
However at the end of 2010 Licenses with United Media/Peanuts World Wide expired for all parties and control was given back to Hallmark. Hallmark is now back in licensing control of the Rainbow Brite toy and products lines. No other news is currently available about what is to come, but we will keep you informed.

United Media shows high hopes for the new Rainbow Brite line. Here is a quote from their artical. On Rainbow Brite’s new look, Diana Stuart, creative vice-president for Hallmark Properties, says “Rainbow Brite is returning to Rainbow Land as a 10-year-old girl after spending some years back home on Earth with her family. We wanted to bring her back older, stronger, and wiser with abilities that will speak to a new generation of kids both in the physical and virtual world. Like the original, she still appeals to children four to eight.” Stuart continues, “When we talk to fans or go to the fan blogs, they pause for a minute with the new look, and then they say, ‘We always drew her a little bit older when we drew her ourselves,’ and a lot of the new elements feel very right to them. The intent certainly is to keep her values very much the same as they were and very wholesome.” Read the rest of the release here.

RAINBOW BRITE OFFERS TWO COLORFUL PROGRAMS FOR LICENSING View Here
United Media recently extended its long term partnership with Hallmark by adding the popular franchise Rainbow Brite to its portfolio. United Media’s licensing program offers two different Rainbow Brite art treatments. The first is the classic, nostalgic ‘80s look which already has traction from junior apparel licensees. The second look is a refreshed, contemporary design which shows younger girls a role model who is socially-aware, inspirational and innovative. Playmates has been tapped as the master toy licensee and will unveil a contemporized line of fashion dolls, plush and role-play toys exclusively at a national retailer in time for holiday 2009. Licensees are currently being sought in the following categories: apparel/accessories, publishing, room décor/domestics, consumer packaged goods, promotions, and interactive games. Rainbow Brite marks the third addition to the United Media and Hallmark licensing relationship, which also includes the popular hoops&yoyo and Maxine brands.

United Media's Press Release states: "Empowering a new generation of girls to spread hope and happiness, a new innovative program launch is underway featuring Rainbow and her best friends Tickled Pink and Moonglow."
